The Wildwood Experience
Back to Home Page

As you drive up, you will see Wildwood sitting on a beautiful acre lot set back from Hwy 7 (Park Avenue), nestled in among trees taller than the house. We have plenty of off-street parking and a circle drive to the front which is convenient for unloading luggage.

Well, come on in! The beauty of the Rembrandt Reception Hall will take your breath away! Having been designed to serve as a ballroom for special occasions, the room is very open and large, with a magnificent ornate cherry staircase, intricately carved fireplace mantel and two gorgeous stained glass windows. The main level of the house is 2300 sq. ft. and includes the Rembrandt Reception Hall, Gentlemen's Parlor, Ladies' Parlor, Formal Dining, Old Kitchen, Original Butler's Pantry and a downstairs half bath. These rooms are all common areas for our guests to enjoy. You have lots of extra space for relaxing, in addition to your room.
Entering the front door, you will hear soft music in the background, and smell a slight delicious scent of vanilla and orange.

After check-in you may want to visit our Butler's Pantry, alias "The Snack Room". Here we keep home-baked goodies, bottled water, sodas, popcorn, chips, etc...This is also where you will find the ice machine, ice buckets, refrigerator and microwave. Or, in the main dining room, you can visit the coffee bar for a cup of gourmet coffee, hot tea, or hot chocolate anytime during your visit. All snacks are included in the room rates. Steal a brownie, and then wander around outside and enjoy the grounds and the porches with wicker furniture.

If you aren't ready to go out on the town quite yet, you may want to get comfy on our leather couch in the Ladies' Parlor. Here you can watch a movie, cable TV, play checkers, or maybe a board game. We live on a separate floor of the house so there are no worries about privacy or curfews.
Getting sleepy? We've been told we have the most comfortable beds ever with featherbeds and down comforters. These can be removed in case of allergies. Don't forget to set your alarm because you definitely don't want to miss breakfast! And what do we serve for breakfast, anyway?

First course: Home-baked bread such as, strawberry bread, lemon muffins, banana-pumpkin bread. All breads have a glaze or icing to compliment them.

Second course: Fresh fruit served in a wine glass, on a skewer, or sliced on a small plate.

Third course: Egg dish such as stuffed Breakfast Croissant or maybe Quiche Lorraine. This course also includes a side dish such as Hash Brown Casserole, Sausage Cream Pastry or some such yummy.

Fourth course: This would be dessert! Could be Strawberry Pancakes, Cinnamon French Toast, or maybe a steaming hot Upside-down, Blueberry-Pineapple Coffee Cake.

Yes, we have repeat guests that come back just for the food! And yes, we do accommodate special diets.

Your three to four course candlelit gourmet breakfast is especially enjoyable in our lovely rounded dining room. The sun coming in through red and green stained glass windows is a cheerful start to your day. The view from the dining room is green lawn and majestic trees!

Now that you've enjoyed breakfast you can do like some of our guests and head back to bed for a nap! Or, if you are interested in the history of Wildwood and the Ellsworth family, we offer a tour of the home, including the old servant's quarters, complimentary to our overnight guests. This tour gives quite a bit more information than is available on our web site.

We will be publishing a cookbook. Until then, here are a couple of our guest’s favorite dishes. Easy to make!

Blueberry-Pineapple Upside-Down Coffee Cake

Blueberry Muffin Mix 1/2 stick real butter
1 packet Quick-Rise yeast 1/3 cup brown sugar
1 can pineapple slices non-stick spray
cherries 1 slightly beaten egg
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray regular size pie pan with non-stick spray. Rinse and drain blueberries. Melt 1/2 stick butter in small saucepan and then mix in brown sugar. Pour into pie pan. Spread around evenly. Arrange pineapple slices and cherries on top of brown sugar-butter mixture. Heat up 2/3 pineapple juice from the can to the almost boiling point. Pour this into a mixing bowl with the muffin mix and the quick-rise yeast. Stir well, then add egg. Use mixer to finish mixing, then cover for 10 minutes with plastic wrap to allow yeast to rise. Next, mix in blueberries and spread this into pie pan. Bake about 30 minutes until nicely browned on top. Turn over on to serving plate. Delicious served steaming hot!!
Stuffed Breakfast Croissants
Bacon Butter
Shaved Ham Mayo
Swiss cheese Ranch Dressing
Colby cheese Caesar Dressing
Croissants Foil, non-stick spray
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking pan with foil and spray with non-stick spray. Slice croissants in half and then spread small amount of melted butter on bottom half and then continue to layer. Next, swiss cheese, then ham, colby cheese, soft-scrambled egg and bacon. Inside the top spread a very thin layer of a mixture of the mayo, ranch and Caesar. Just a dab of Caesar! Put the tops on, cover in foil and bake for 30 minutes. Do not over bake or eggs will get rubbery. Also good baked with sliced onion and thinly sliced Roma tomatoes. Mmmmmmm.......

"Thanks so much for the magical memories of Wildwood! The delicious food, rich history, flashlight 3rd floor tour, and tranquil sleeping made our stay in this historic mansion on the hill a lasting memory for us. We will return."

Gerald and Debbie, Dallas, Tx

"The beauty and charm of this old house is matched-no, exceeded, by the two lovely hostesses. Their warmth and attention to detail leaves one with a rich patina, characterized by an unmistakable Tinkerbelle smile! I could go on, yet some things simply need to be experienced!"

Rand and Marsha

"The trip that almost didn't happen...I'm so glad you won over my husband! I believe he now thinks it is macho to stay in a B&B. We will spread the word about this fairytale place.

Steve and Marta, Norman, Ok

"We knew from the time we stopped by to see if we could stay at your B&B that we were in for a treat. We love your home, and you are such a special addition to the stay! We really enjoyed the cookies and the great breakfasts!

Vince and Connie, St. Charles, Mo

"Thank you for the memorable experience you gave us for our 10th anniversary. Your cooking and presentation are fantastic! It's the little" details" that set you apart from the rest."

Scott and Ida, Elwood, In

"Our 'spur of the moment' trip to Hot Springs brought us to your door. From the moment we stepped in, we were at home. Your Mom (Tinkerbelle) is such a delight! Her enthusiasm is quite contagious! Thank you for a wonderful stay. To wake up in a 'bed of roses' was heavenly!"

Peggy, Tulsa, Ok

"The door to our porch has been open and the cool spring air fills the room. New leaves in the sweet gum trees, irises in the yard blooming, azaleas still blooming across the street. And I have a love affair with Victorian architecture and Victorian furniture. Like it all. Thanks for the elegant breakfasts.

Arnold and Mary, Greenwood, Ms

"Our 5th anniversary. Our first trip to Hot Springs will not be our last, thanks largely to your hospitality and cooking! We enjoyed every bit of it. Loved the history, thanks so much for taking care of this precious past. Was reading my Bible this morning and came upon a verse in Psalm 16:5 that brought to mind Sarah Ellsworth's quote under her stained glass window. It reads 'Oh, Lord, you are the portion of my inheritance and my cup.' Wonderful to know this lovely home was built on a foundation stronger than stone! What a godly woman she must have been. Even more wonderful is the fact that the peace of God still reigns here through your family! His presence is truly felt here. We hope to return...In His Grace"

Daniel and Karen, Flower Mound, Tx

"This has been a very restful and relaxing stay. The house is a beautiful expression of hospitality and your family fits in perfect. This was our 28th anniversary and we enjoyed every minute. Please continue to allow the relaxed mood and atmosphere to be the thesis sentence of working such calm and peace into this home. Hospitality is an action not made of material things. May God bless you and your family with peace and grace sufficient for every day."

Carl and Sherry, Muldrow, Ok

We have been and lived in the US for one year now and this is the first place we have found where you really feel history through the wallpapers.
